Some things

April 23, 2009

I am not a moderator of Club Penguin (or any game).
I cannot ban or unban people.
I can’t buy or hack free membership for anyone.
I will not give you my CP password.

Also, the reason I don’t make many CP videos anymore, is because I am bored of Club penguin and too old for it, so quit asking me!

Club Penguin review

April 23, 2009

Please note that this review is not reviewing the Nintendo DS game “Club Penguin: Elite Penguin Force”, it is reviewing the game at www.clubpenguin.com.

Club penguin is an online game where you get to talk to other people, play minigames (sometimes with other people), buy things and more.

After you create an account on the game, you start with 100 coins (Club Penguin currency) and an igloo to call home. To earn more coins, you must play minigames. There are plenty of minigames scattered throughout the large virtual world, which include things such as a card game, a surfing game, a jet pack game, a cooking game, a dancing game, a fishing game and more. Some games are multiplayer, but the majority are single-player only.

You may spend your coins on player card backgrounds, different colours for your penguin avatar, or a red or blue puffle (a puffle is a small pet you must care for) or food for your puffle.

If you have paid membership on the game (US$5.95 per month), you may spend your coins on new, larger igloos, renovations for your igloo, furniture for your igloo, clothes for your penguin, and a larger range of puffles. Membership also grants access to extra parties and rooms, and the ability to invite everyone to your igloo.

Club Penguin’s large virtual world contains lots of rooms and buildings. The rooms include a library, a coffee shop, a pet store, a beach and a clothes store. Some rooms contain minigames to play, and other features.

On Club Penguin, there is a party about every month or so. At these parties, free items are given out to all players, and there are usually extra rooms and items available to paying members of the game.

The game is incredibly safe, as swearing results in a 24 hour ban, and if you get 5 of these, you are banned indefinatly. However, bullying and mean behaviour still manages to exist. Players find gaps in the filters (an example is putting spaces between the letters of a swear word). There are occasionly protests staged by players on the game, that usually involve non-members asking for paying members rights.

As this is a game marketed at children, there are no violent minigames, references to sex, drugs or crime.

Overall, the game is good for young children to play, but the game does get boring after a while.

The good: Fun minigames, good game for children.
The bad: Boring after a while

7.5/10

Crazy Taxi (PS2) review

February 2, 2009

I have decided to write a review on Crazy Taxi, a classic game on the PS2.

Crazy taxi is a game where you get to act as a cabbie for 3, 5 or 10 minutes, doing whatever you can to deliver your passengers on time, which may even include driving through subway tunnels or underwater.

Crazy Taxi is INCREDIBLY fun and addictive. After navigating the home menu, you must pick a driver and car. All the cars have equal top speeds/performance etc. The corny home menu voice can get a bit annoying, but you do not hear it during play. After navigating the unusual contols of the game (R1 to accelerate, L1 to brake, X to reverse), you will be on your way. You cannot “finish” this game.

The graphics are fairly blocky, but that dosn’t really matter in a game that is so addictive and has awesome gameplay. This game can be picked up for uber-low prices ($10 max), but you will have to dig your way through the bargain bin at your local game store.

Rating: 7/10

The good: Fun gameplay, cheap, addictive.
The bad: Graphics could be better, annoying voice, no storyline.

The bottom line: Get it, the flaws are made up for by good gameplay and a bargain bin price.

Available on: PS2, Dreamcast, GameCube, Xbox, Zeebo, PC, PSP*, GBA*

*different versions.

NFS ProStreet review (PSP)

January 16, 2009

Need For Speed ProStreet is a game that is a bit different compared to other Need For Speed games, in the sense that it is not another illegal street racing game, it is more like a cross between the Gran Turismo series and the Need For Speed series.

The cars are similar to NFS Carbon. NFS ProStreet still has the traditional car modifications as its predescessors did, but lacks the Autosculpt feature. In ProStreet, however, vinyls and paint are all free (like in NFS Underground). Car damage also affects your performance, as well as visuals. At the end of each race, you must also pay to have your car repaired (if you suffered any damage).

The tracks range from traditional race tracks to road tracks, although you do not have to dodge civilian cars. There are several tracks that you will drive on as you progress. Types of races are pretty similar to other NFS games. There are no “boss” races, as in previous games.

NFS ProStreet is a good game, but you will be disappointed if you are looking for cop chases and free roam modes.

Gameplay: 7/10
Graphics: 6.5/10
Overall: 7.5/10

Available on: PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PSP, DS, PS2, Mobile Phone, PC

Canis Canem Edit (PS2) review

December 31, 2008

I have just about completed another awesome PS2 game. And I feel that its time to write a review for it.

Canis Canem Edit (Bully in the USA and Canada), is a game in which you must defeat all the subcultures in the school (Bullworth Academy), and the school dropouts. The game is a hybrid of several genres (those genres being Action Adventure, Shooter, Sport and Racing).

You start the game inside the school, which is an elite boarding school. You must see the principal, then start your adventure. You must find the missions and complete them, in order to begin the next one. Some are only available after a certain time on the game’s clock. Jimmy Hopkins (your character) passes out at 2AM.

Later on in the game, you will be able to explore Bullworth Town and later, New Coventry and eventually, Blue Skies Industrial Area, where the game ends.  Each of these areas includes a hospital, a police station and a subculture’s “hideout”. There are some unclassified areas, such as islands (you must swim there) in the lagoon surrounding the town.

You will be busted by prefects and teachers (inside the school) and police (outside the school) and orderlies (in the Lunatic Asylum, later in the game). If you get busted outside of school, the game will resume either outside of a police station or at the gate to the asylum. Sometimes, at school, you will be forced to do a detention (mowing the lawn).

There are several items to collect, some items include Goblins And Gremlins cards and rubber bands. If you collect all of a particular item (they are scattered throughout the map), you gain a reward (some clothes for Jimmy Hopkins, your character).  The easiest items to collect are Gravestones (destroy them) and pumkins (destroy them).

Missions vary in legnth and difficulty. Some involve simple tasks, such as defending (fighting the bullies) the school loner/bully victim while taking him to the toilet without being him knocked out, while some involve much harder tasks. The hardest mission in my opinion is Stronghold Assault, which takes ages to complete. Missions done on behalf of girls earn a kiss from the girl.

Classes are small minigames. There are five stages of each class, and there are six different classes. Other minigames include arcade machines scattered across the map and sport games.

There are several vehicles for Jimmy to drive. These are a skateboard, a lawnmower (used to do detentions and to get money), various bicycles (shop class enables Jimmy to make his own), and a scooter. Bicyles are available from Jimmy’s garage (after completing Shop classes), at bike racks located across the map, and from stealing them from people by pushing them off. Scooters are available for purchase at the fairground, or by stealing them (NOTE: Scooters are relatively rare on the streets). Jimmy can compete in bike races with either a bicycle or a scooter.

You can change Jimmy’s appearance by buying different clothes, and later in the game, hair styles, and in the last chapter, tattoos.

Combat in Canis Canem Edit varies. At the beginning of the game, you only have a slingshot or your fist. Other weapons to unlock are stink bombs, itching powder, fire crackers (like bombs), bottle rockets, a spudgun, and a firework (NOTE: fireworks are very rare). Hit a little kid, a teacher, an adult (in the town) or a girl, and you will be chased by police or prefects. In the town however, it is virtually impossible to go on a “massacre” with bottle rockets, fire crackers and the spudgun, without being busted by police.

You can also vandalise things, such as windows. Punch them to vandalise them. Later in the game, you can also do graffiti. Warning: These activites are illegal and could get you busted.

Overall Rating: 8.5/10

The Good: Long, fun, addictive, challenging.

The Bad: Too hard to do bad things (eg shooting in town) without getting busted.

Rated for: Violence, sexual references, gambling references, swearing.

Available on: PS2, Wii, Xbox 360
